From Classroom to Creek
Firefly Farm and Forest offers immersive, hands-on outdoor education field trips designed to extend classroom learning into meaningful, real-world experiences.
Located along the Niagara Escarpment, our 100-acre farm and forest site provides students with access to diverse natural environments including forests, creeks, wetlands, gardens, orchards, and an ever-eroding farm field ideal for hands-on geology exploration. Our programs are rooted in experiential learning and support both curriculum outcomes and student well-being through extended time outdoors. Best suited for Grades 1 and up.
An Extraordinary Field Trip Experience
Firefly field trips prioritize depth over speed. Students are given time and space to explore, inquire, collaborate, and problem-solve within authentic natural environments.
Experiences may include:
• Creek and water system exploration (aquatic life, habitats, water flow)
• Forest ecosystem studies and wildlife observation
• Geology exploration and rock mining using real tools
• Environmental stewardship and nature-based inquiry
• Team-based challenges and collaborative problem-solving
• Open-ended exploration that supports curiosity, confidence, and self-regulation
Students move through multiple learning areas during their visit, including forest “home bases,” creek access points, and open natural spaces that encourage meaningful engagement.

Accessibility & Flexible Programming
Our natural site includes uneven terrain and is not fully wheelchair accessible. In recognition of this, Firefly Farm and Forest also offers on-site school programming, bringing many of our hands-on nature experiences directly to school grounds.
This flexibility allows schools to engage in outdoor education in ways that best support accessibility, inclusion, and student needs.
