Day camp activities

We offer a range of exciting activities tailored for children aged 4 and up. Our approach focuses on hands-on experiences and outdoor exploration, providing effective and practical learning opportunities.

Building & construction

Children become designers, engineers, and builders as they create forts, shelters, and structures from natural and reclaimed materials. Through real woodworking, hammering, sawing, and problem-solving, they learn persistence, teamwork, and spatial awareness while bringing their ideas to life. From stick forts to forest hideouts, every build strengthens confidence and gives children the powerful experience of creating something real with their own hands.

Forest & creek exploration

Our forest and creek are living classrooms where curiosity leads the way. Children splash, climb, observe, and investigate as they discover salamanders, crayfish, insects of every kind, and an incredible variety of fungi. Each visit brings new treasures to find and questions to explore, nurturing a deep connection to the natural world while building observation skills, confidence, and a sense of wonder that can’t be taught indoors.

Mud kitchens & loose parts

Our mud kitchens invite children into a world of imagination, sensory exploration, and creativity—where mud pies are masterpieces, sticks become spoons, and water, soil, and leaves turn into magical recipes. Alongside this, our large loose parts area gives children the freedom to build, stack, design, and invent using real materials like wood, logs, crates, and tires. This kind of open-ended play builds confidence, resilience, problem-solving skills, and collaboration—while keeping childhood earthy, joyful, and wildly imaginative.

Summer Camp - Registration NOW OPEN!!

Summer Camp at Firefly Farm & Forest is a 6-week, nature-based program rooted in deep, child-led exploration. Each week centers around a specific topic of inquiry (not themes), allowing children the time and space to immerse themselves fully, revisit ideas, build skills, and form meaningful relationships with the land and with one another.

Camp days unfold entirely outdoors through wandering, building, observing, tracking, creating, experimenting, cooking over the fire, and following curiosity wherever it leads. Children primarily work in mixed-age groups, encouraging collaboration, leadership, mentorship, and rich social learning.

Ages:
4–7 and 8–12 (primarily mixed-age)

Daily Schedule:
Camp hours run from 9:30 AM – 3:30 PM
Optional before and after care is available from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Weekly Topics & Dates

Week of July 13 – Building & Woodworking
Children explore construction through hands-on building using real tools and natural materials. They design and build simple structures, experiment with balance and strength, problem-solve through trial and error, and gain confidence as capable creators in the forest.

Week of July 20 – Rock Mining & Discovery
Campers dig, collect, sort, and examine rocks and minerals found on the land. Children explore textures, colors, and origins of materials while building personal collections and strengthening observation and inquiry skills.

Week of July 27 – Bugs, Frogs & Forest Logs
Children investigate the forest floor by flipping logs and exploring habitats of insects, amphibians, and other small forest creatures. Through respectful observation, campers learn about ecosystems, life cycles, and interdependence.

Week of August 10 – Deep in the Forest
An immersive week focused on animal awareness and tracking. Children follow footprints and signs, listen closely to forest sounds, craft bird calls, and learn about the animals that share our land, fostering connection and respect for wildlife.

Week of August 17 – Survival Skills
Campers practice foundational outdoor skills including shelter building, knot tying and lashing, navigation, teamwork, and problem-solving. The focus is on resilience, collaboration, and working with the land through real challenges.

Week of August 24 – Topic to be announced
Our final week will be announced February 8th! — a special end-of-summer experience designed to celebrate growth, connection, and all that children have explored throughout the season.

Summer Camp Availability

We are nearly full for the 2026 summer season, and have only 2 to 3 spaces remaining in each of the following weeks:

July 20 to 24- Rock Hounding and Rock Mining

July 27 to 31- Bugs, Frogs, and Forest Logs

August 10 to 14- Deep in the Forest

Our camps are intentionally kept small to ensure a calm, supportive environment for exploration and discovery. Once these remaining spaces are filled, registration for the summer will close.

If you are hoping to join us this season, we recommend securing your space soon.

Trailblazers Thursdays (Monday Group is FULL)

Trailblazers is a low-capacity summer drop-off program designed for children who thrive in smaller groups and want to explore deeply in nature at their own pace. Created as a thoughtful alternative to traditional summer camp, Trailblazers offers space for curiosity, independence, and meaningful connection — without the overwhelm of large group programming.

Each session unfolds outdoors through wandering the forest, tracking animals, collecting natural treasures, building and creating with raw materials, using real tools with guidance, getting muddy, and following curiosity wherever it leads. Children are encouraged to move slowly, return to familiar places, and build real relationships with the land and with one another.

Trailblazers is intentionally small. This low-capacity structure allows for deeper exploration, stronger connections, and a calm, supportive environment where children feel seen, capable, and confident.

Schedule:
Thursdays throughout the summer
July 9, 16, 23 & August 13, 20, 27

Half Day (ages 3–5): 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM $275
Full Day (ages 6+): 9:30 AM – 3:30 PM $485
